Spiritual Direction

What Is Spiritual Direction?

The focus of spiritual direction is ordinary, everyday life with God. It helps us notice the movement of the Spirit in all areas of life. It is a space to reflect, pray, and listen for the voice of God.

A spiritual director listens, asks questions, and notices the movements of God in a person’s life. Despite its name, spiritual direction is not counseling or mentoring. The director facilitates the conversation, but it is Christ who leads. Spiritual directors walk with others as they walk with God.

People usually meet with a spiritual director once a month for one hour. Spiritual direction is helpful for those trying to make a big decision, walking through a dry season, or simply longing for more in their life with God.

About Kara

Hi! My name is Kara Tobey. As a spiritual director, my role is to listen to your story and be present with you as we pay attention to how God is moving in your life and the world around you. Additionally, I work as a hospice and healthcare chaplain, and I am experienced in working with people in seasons of grief.

I discovered spiritual direction over a decade ago, and I am indebted to my directors for their wisdom and patience as they have walked alongside me and nurtured my growing faith. It is an honor to offer this gift to others.

My training includes:

  • Master of Divinity (Duke Divinity School)
  • Certificate in Spiritual Direction (Denver Seminary)
  • Certificate in Spiritual Formation (The Renovaré Institute)
  • I am currently training in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises (Jesuit Institute South Africa)

I meet with directees via phone, video call, or in person in Lakewood, CO. Our first meeting is a free consultation. Contact me below!
